This week’s Featured Business is 49van.com, an on-demand Canadian Black-owned moving and delivery company

49VAN.COM

1. Tell us a little bit about your company.

We are an on-demand moving and delivery company. We are a Black-owned and Black-led company.  We do small moves, we do different types of deliveries - from small packages to furniture delivery, as well as furniture assembly and junk removal.

2. When did you start your business and how did you come with the idea?

We started 5 years ago. The idea was simple. We had a friend who came to Canada as a student. She had to move out of the campus to a new place. She looked for moving companies, but the prices were high and she didn’t feel comfortable giving all her stuff to someone that she didn’t know. So we decided to rent a truck and help her. Soon we got requests from her friends and the rest is history.

3. Where are you located?

We are located in Toronto but we service the Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario, as well as some of the major Canadian cities.

4. What makes your business special or unique?

The name of the company is "49 van" because we started with a van and we start at $49 per delivery. We are very affordable, reliable and we are always on time. That's why we have 5* reviews on Google.

5. What are your 3 favourite products/services?

The deliveries that bring joy to people when we deliver something that they purchased, the small moves when we move people into new homes and the junk removal when people purge their stuff so they can start with a clean slate.

6. What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner ?

The biggest challenge was to find the funds when we wanted to grow the business and also to find a niche when it comes to the clients.

7. What have you learned about yourself since you started your business?

Resilience. It is important to take every day as a brand new day. It is important to make plans keeping in mind what didn’t work well in the past. One step every day takes you slowly but surely closer to your goal.

8. Would you do it again?

Definitely yes. It is rewarding on so many levels - financially, personally, socially. Establishing connections with clients and partners, building a legacy, supporting less favoured people through our volunteer work.

9. What are you working on right now?

We are working on expanding our service areas. We are actively recruiting and looking for new partners. Anybody interested can reach us at info@49van.com

10. Do you want to relay anything to our readers?

Be kind to your movers! Haha! We work all day long carrying heavy stuff whether it’s hot or cold. These days it was terrible throughout Canada with the temperature between -20 Celsius to -50 Celsius. We didn’t cancel our appointments. If someone books us, it means they need our help and we cannot disappoint them. If you need a reliable delivery company, check out our prices on 49van.com and book directly there. No hidden fees. What you see is what you pay! Whatever it is delivered as quick as a click!

You can find 49van.com listed on AfroBiz.ca in Real Estate & Home Services category in GTA and Southern Ontario cities.
