Maneuver, Your Official Men’s Grooming Guide

MB • Feb 09, 2022

This week’s Featured Business is Maneuver, a Canadian Black-owned brand that changes the view on self-care, grooming and mental health

MANEUVER

1. Tell us a little bit about your company.

Maneuver was created to change the way men view self-care, grooming and mental health; to show men it is important to take care of their personal hygiene; and to emphasize the importance for men to talk about issues normally neglected or deemed taboo by society.

We realize that the majority of barbershops and men's grooming products set a standard for how men should look; we want to set a standard of how men carry themselves, how men should give back to their communities, and how men should support each other, whether that be a hand to hold or an ear to listen.

2. When did you start your business and how did you come with the idea?

The creation of Maneuver originally started in 2019, we wanted to provide a safe space for Black men to talk about their relationships, mental health, wellness and goals. Our products and services came second hand in aiding with changing the narrative of our brothers all around the world.

3. Where are you located?

We are currently located in the Greater Toronto Area.

4. What makes your business special or unique?

Our uniqueness comes from the notion that our goal is to rewrite the misconception of a Black man. One of the other things we pride ourselves with is bringing the community together. There is so much more power in numbers!

5. What are your 3 favorite products/services?

With our individual products we offer we’ve found that our bundles have been doing really well. Our Beard Growth Kit, our Brown Sugar Bundle as well as Wave Brushes.

6. What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner and how did you address it?

You find that on this path there are some people who make a lot of empty promises. You try to form a relationship with everyone but you realize that many of those are not there to benefit you at all. Organic relationships are the ones that combat some of those issues we were faced with in the past.

7. What have you learned about yourself since you started your business?

When helping others without the agenda of them returning the favor has resulted in many great relationships we have today. Also, the importance of self-care from an external and internal standpoint. Now more than ever with everything happening in the world, we must not forget to put ourselves first!

8. Would you do it again?

Yes, over and over again. Meeting everyone throughout this journey has been the ultimate reward. We meet like-minded individuals trying to re-write what has been formed in the past.

9. What are you working on now?

We’re currently working on establishing relationships with different barbers and barber shops throughout North America which requires a lot of our time traveling to the US to build those necessary relationships. As well as working on our beard growth journey campaign and prepping for our Valentine's Day and Black History Month campaigns.

10. Do you want to relay anything to our readers?

Maneuver is more than just a grooming business. We are a community uniting to maneuver through the obstacles of life with nothing but love and togetherness. We want everyone to join us on our journey and continue to share our stories to the world!
